Luweero FDC party chairman Baale Bwanika is dead

The chairman of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party in Luweero District, Absolom Bwanika Bbaale is dead.

Ms Rita Nakuya Bwanika, the daughter to the deceased, said that Bwanika succumbed to Liver Cancer on Monday afternoon at Kampala Hospital where he had been admitted.

“Papa has been relieved of the pain and now rests in the Lord’s hands. The vigil will be held at his home in Kasana Town, Kalongo Miti Zone and burial arrangements are fixed for Thursday,” Ms Nakuya said in a brief interview on Monday.

Bwanika who represented Katikamu North Constituency in the 1994 Constituent Assembly has been a long serving member of the FDC party and single handedly rented the party offices in the area since 2010.

“We have lost a dedicated member of the FDC party who has sacrificed his personal resources including renting of the party offices for more than ten years in Luweero District. We got the news about his death at about 2:30pm from the family members. We shall miss him as an elder and a man who has struggled for the justice even when it meant sacrificing his personal resources,” Mr Geofrey Kaddu the Luweero FDC party spokesperson said.

In 2011, he contested for the Luweero District LC5 Chairperson seat but lost to Hajji Abdul Nadduli.
