Luweero to host national episcopal youth conference

LUWEERO- Kasana-Luweero Diocese will host the 2019 National Youth Conference (NYC) under the Uganda Catholic Episcopal Conference.

The week-long annual gathering attracts both Catholic and non-Catholic youth from Uganda and other foreign Countries.

This year’s NYC is intended to engage the youth as young people at the service of the Church and the Nation.

The Uganda Episcopal Conference is targeting the youth who are caught up in an increasingly challenging world.

The meeting will tackle issues that focus on the youth daily experiences, achievements, talents, aspirations, dreams and challenges on their journey of faith and human development.an development.

The conference will be held from 10th and 15th of December 2019 at the Diocesan Headquarters in Luweero Town Council.

“We expect more than 5,000 youth from the 19 Catholic Dioceses in Uganda and many other youth delegates from foreign Countries who have already confirmed participation,” Msgr. Mathias Kanyerezi, the Vicar General of Kasana – Luweero Diocese said on Monday.

The Catholic Church has several programmes meant to help the youth walk the right path and prepare them as the future foundation of the Church and Nation that partly explains the different activities targeting the youth.

Preparing the youth to be responsible citizens, God-loving and helping them to explore avenues on how to develop their talents and share experiences.

Kasana- Luweero Diocese has kick-started preparations with youth engagement in sports activities and awareness campaigns focusing on talent and the spiritual growth, Mr Ronald Mulondo the Chairperson of the NYC organising committee said in an interview.

Kasana-Luweero Diocese is among the 19 Catholic Dioceses under the Uganda Episcopal Conference which is tasked to spearhead mobilisation activities including raising Shs400 million which is needed to organize the meeting.

The youth are taking part in many activities expected to raise awareness including the Holly Cross every Sunday to various parishes for adoration.

They also move with a priest who leads prayers at the respective families visited, according to Fr Boniface Ssenteza, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain said.
