House help disappears with her boss’ baby

Mbale- Police in Mbale District are hunting a housemaid who kidnapped a three-year-old child of her employers in Mirembe Cell, Nabuyonga Ward in Mbale Municipality.

The parents, Mr Moses Micheal Mukone and Ms Carol Muduwa, who have reported the case under number SD O5/19/01/2019 to police claim their daughter identified as Darlene Lydia Muduwa was kidnapped by their housemaid on January 18, from their home.

The housemaid, 34, is a resident of Mirembe Village, where the parents of the child live.

The acting Elgon Region police spokesperson, Mr Robert Tukei, said: “We have started the search for the baby suspected to have been abducted by the housemaid.”

He added: “We have arrested the mother and the uncle of the maid to help in the investigation.”

Mr Tukei asked community members to volunteer information on whereabouts of the suspect saying preliminary investigations indicate the suspect could be hiding in Kumi or Soroti District.

According to Mr Tukei, the suspect would be charged with child theft.

The incident
Ms Muduwa, an office assistant at Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) at Mbale branch, said on the fateful day she returned home and found the house open but her child and maid were missing.

“We searched around but could not find them. We were advised to report the matter to police and we reported,” she said.

She said they entrusted the maid with their child because they are close friends to her family.

“I have known that family of the maid for more than 20 years and when their daughter came asking for work as a maid, I did not hesitate,” she said.

Mr Mukone said: “It’s a troubling moment but we won’t give up until we get the child.”
