Mbale businessman killed, body dumped in Sironko

MBALE-Police in Mbale District are investigating the killing of a prominent businessman.

William Achira, 43, a resident of Malukhu Adra in Industrial Division, was reportedly murdered on Sunday and his body dumped in Bigwanyi village on Mbale-Sironko road.

It’s reported that Achira left his place of work in Industrial Division, Mbale town, on Sunday morning, and travelled to Sironko to buy maize.

He was found dead, two hours later.

Residents told Daily Monitor that he was killed at about 11am on Sunday by people who were travelling in a white Subaru car.

Mr Moses Kirya, a fellow businessman, said the Achira left his workplace after receiving a call from someone who asked him to go and buy maize in Sironko District.

“I talked to him in the morning and he told me that he was going to Sironko to buy maize. I was shocked when I received news that he had been found dead,” he said.

The Elgon Region Police Commander, Mr Abraham Betongyeza declined to give details about their findings in order not to jeopardise investigations.

The acting Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Robert Tukei said preliminary investigations indicate that Achira was killed from somewhere else and his body dumped in Sironko District.

“We suspect he was strangled because the body had no injuries,” he said. “The killers robbed over Shs5 million from him.”

He said the deceased’s phones were found at the scene of crime.

The body was taken to Mbale Municipal Council Mortuary for a post-mortem.

On Wednesday, two armed thugs robbed Shs1.9 million from a mobile money agent in Nakaloke Town Council, Mbale District.
