One dead, two injured in Fort Portal road accident

KABAROLE: One person has been reported dead while two have been rushed to hospital in critical condition following an accident that occurred in Fort Portal town on Friday night.

The accident occurred at the roundabout of Fort Portal town near Voice of Toro radio when the driver of a Fuso lorry registration number UAN 335D failed to negotiate the roundabout and knocked a boda boda cyclist who died on spot.

The Fuso lorry was carrying Matooke and was on its way to Kampala. Mr James Baguma, one of the survivors told this reporter that the driver of the Fuso lorry told them that his vehicle had got a mechanical problem and that it could not brake.

"I survived because of God’s grace because after the driver telling us that our vehicle could not stop anymore I surrendered,” Mr Baguma said.

The driver of the Fuso and two other people were critically injured and were rushed to Fort Portal regional referral hospital.

The Kabarole District Police Commander Mr Musa Tibakirana said the accident was caused by the poor mechanical condition of the Fuso, adding that its driver is on the run.
