State House officials suspended over missing piglets
Three State House field officers attached to Kityerera State Lodge have been suspended over missing piglets.
The move followed a directive from State House to investigate circumstances surrounding the disappearance of piglets that were meant to be distributed to residents of Kityerera Town Council.
The affected officials are Sarah Kawuma, Waitah Atim and Moses Basoga.
Mayuge Resident District Commissioner, Mr James Shilaku, executed the State House directive.
The officials are suspected to have sold 949 piglets that were meant to be distributed to residents in fulfilment of the 2015 Presidential pledge to boost the livelihoods of people around Kityerera State Lodge.
Ms Zilia Namaganda, the Kityerera Town Council district female councillor, who also doubles as the project coordinator, says some politicians are fighting the programme.
"This is because all the three field officers are my children. There are some politicians who are feeding security [officials] with wrong information to fight me,” she said.
But Mr Shilaku says the District Security Committee has instituted a subcommittee led by the sub county chief to investigate the matter in collaboration with police.
He dismissed claims of political interference to frustrate the programme, saying security officials are only doing its work to ensure that all beneficiaries are catered for.
Ms Lydia Balemezi, the overall supervisor of the programme on behalf of State house, says the field officers sent lists indicating different names of beneficiaries, which undermines the integrity of the programme.
