Three die in Mukono road accident

Mukono- Three people died and twelve others were critically injured in a Wednesday road accident at  Kayanja, Namataba in Mukono District.

The accident involved a taxi and a cargo truck.

The taxi that was heading to Kampala, rammed into a stationary truck at about 9 am.

According to Mr Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the taxi driver who was trying to overtake several vehicles, suddenly lost control of the van and rammed into the truck.

 Mr Giry Yusuf, the driver of the truck is detained at Mukono Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident go on.

Those who were injured were taken to Kawolo Hospital. Bodies were taken to the the mortuary at the health centre.

On Tuesday, five people died at Kabuye-Kyabadaaza on Masaka highway in Mpigi District when a bus belonging to Global Bus Company collided with a commuter taxi.

Reckless driving, narrow roads, poor mechanical condition of most vehicles, poor enforcement of traffic rules, among other factors, have been cited as the leading cause of road accidents in Uganda.
