Two arrested for impersonating UPDF soldiers

DOKOLO-Two people have been arrested for allegedly impersonating UPDF soldiers and staging illegal roadblocks to extort money from travellers in Dokolo District.

One of the suspects is a resident of Kaberamaido District while his colleague hails from Aweingo village, in Oyam District.

They were arrested on Tuesday afternoon when residents alerted police.

Mr Lawrence Egole, the Dokolo Resident District Commissioner, said the suspects have been staging night roadblocks on Dokolo - Amolatar road.

He said the suspects were found in possession of camouflage jackets, security boots, a motorcycle and fish.

“They had some good amount of money but didn’t have identification documents,” Mr Egole said on Wednesday.

Dokolo District Police Commander, Mr Jimton Aguta, said the suspects are detained at Dokolo Central Police Station.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects have been posing as UPDF Marine officers to extort money mainly from fishermen and travellers,” he said.
