Two people died on Saturday in a Mabira Forest road accident that involved four speeding vehicles and two boda boda motorcycles.

Scores of people who were injured, have been rushed to Kawolo Hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses say, the two people who died on spot were boda boda riders who were riding with a group of about 50 boda boda cyclists to Iganga District, to attend a burial ceremony.

The boda boda riders, according to witnesses, were riding ahead of a heavy truck on the notorious Mabira Forest section, where most motorists are fond of driving at breath-taking speed.

As they raced, the truck crushed the two boda boda riders beyond recognition, before it crashed in a ditch some 50 metres away.

It’s not clear whether the driver knocked the riders after losing control of the truck or he was trying to prove to the boda boda men that they could not “bully” him on the road.

When the truck crashed, three speeding vehicles (two commuter taxis and a Toyota Prado) knocked the trailer which had overturned in the middle of the busy road.

Several traffic officers headed by the regional traffic commander, Mr Israel Wambeso are at the scene of the accident.
