Phillip Kiplimo and Nyakisi Adero have broken the 42.2km record of the MTN Kampala Marathon at the run held this morning on the streets of Kampala.
The 27-year-old Kiplimo, who was a bronze medallist at last year's event, crossed the line in 2 hours 13 minutes, taking more than five minutes off the previous record.
Last year, Joshua Chemutai run 2 hours 18 minutes which was one minute better than the time run in 2017 when Sammy Kip-Ngetich Kurgat won in 2 hours 19 minutes.

“I can only thank God because I trained properly for the race and I am happy it worked out okay,” Kiplimo, a member of the Uganda Prisons Athletics Club, said.
It was an all-Ugandan affair on the podium as Prison's teammate Fred Musobo and Arua's Anthony Ayeko completed the perfect 1-2-3 finish.
Elsewhere, Adero Nyakisi, also of Prisons, was three minutes faster than Kenyan Lydia Wafula enroute to breaking the course record in the female category.

Adero, who said this was her biggest win, covered the 42.2km distance in 2 hours 41 minutes, to get her hands on the Shs25m that will be shared with Kiplimo.
Organisers MTN promised to make the run more competitive and offered a Shs25m for breaking the course records.
Proceeds from the marathon will help fund maternal healthcare facilities in Uganda to ensure safe childbirth. Last year, Shs1bn was offered by MTN to help the cause termed as “the most tolerated tragedy”.
