Over 70 suspected Congolese illegal immigrants arrested in Kabale

The police in Kabale have impounded a bus that was carrying over 70 suspected illegal entrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo into Uganda.
The Kabale district police commander Mr. Brian Ampeire said that the suspected illegal immigrants were arrested on Thursday morning at around 10 Pm in Kabale town as they headed for Kampala while traveling in Bismikan bus Reg.No. UAV II8U.
“We received intelligence information that dozens of Congolese nationals suspected to be illegal immigrants boarded Bismikan Bus from Kisoro and were heading to Kampala. A checkpoint was put in place in Kabale town and when the bus suspected to be carrying the illegal entrants arrived, we impounded it and the security personnel is still verifying them,” Mr. Ampeire said.
He added that they cannot take the matter lightly because it might be a security threat to the country. He also said that if the suspects are found to be illegal immigrants, they shall be prosecuted in courts of law.
Mr. Ampeire said that the suspected illegal immigrants included, 48 women, 20 children, and about 10 men.
