KAMPALA- Bugema University were among the victims as Kyambogo University stormed to their maiden University Football League title last season without losing a game. The two teams cross paths again in a repeat of last year’s semi-final which Kyambogo University won 3-0 on aggregate (1-0 at home and 2-0 away).

With a semifinal berth this time at stake, Kyambogo assistant coach Christopher Lobbo is confident his side can replicate last season’s results. “As Kyambogo we are well prepared and full of confidence ahead of the game. Bugema is a team that we played and beat home and away last season and I am confident that this time round we shall do it again,” Lobbo said in the pre-match press conference.

Many of last year’s unbeaten side have since left but it is a measure of their depth that they qualified as top seeds from Group D despite being docked two points for indiscipline from last season.

“Yes we lost a number of players among them our inspirational captain Racmac Ashaba who left for SC Villa but that is the nature of university football,” Lobbo added.

Bugema University who host the first leg however also come into the tie with similar confidence having overcome an even bigger challenge after being docked four points before securing a second place finish in Group A.

“Our team is even better this year than we were last year. They have the experience from last season and they have qualified from the group stage against all odds beating giants along the way,” Nyanzi said.

The quarter final first legs come to an end on Friday when Busitema University host UCU Mukono.
