Phillip Wokorach has for some time been a subject to playing professional rugby and he might have landed a lucky breakthrough.
All he has to do is impress while at French side Bourges XV in trials for the next couple of weeks.
Bourges XV, a fifth division side got a glimpse of Wokorach when he turned out for his first session yesterday morning in central France.
“My first session has gone well but I have another later in the evening,” said Wokorach through text.
Wokorach knows it would be a game changer if he sealed the move and he’s out to push himself to produce results without any pressure.
“No I am not under any pressure but I need to impress. I just have to keep relaxed in the games and do the basics well,”
Apart from the slight issue of language barrier, all seems going well for Wokorach who has spent his last two years at Kenyan side Kabras Sugar on a semi-professional contract. “I am fitting in despite struggling with language,” he added.
Wokorach will have two sessions per day before playing two games in which he’ll be assessed by a coaching panel. The first game comes as early as Saturday before the next in a week’s time. Wokorach has had humble journey from Naguru where he met the game through Kyadondo Rugby Club. He would later join tag rugby before heading to Hana Mixed where a gem was born, winning every schools title there was to be won. His club rugby journey started at Stallions to Buffaloes and Hima Heathens where big spending Kabras Sugar pounced in 2017 with a contract he could hardly turn down. In return, he’d take Kenya rugby by storm and his departure will leave Kenya rugby gaping.
Wokorach is the country’s most popular player known for his flashy feet and kicking. His style of play has won him plaudits everywhere he has played. He has represented both the 7s ,15s Cranes sides, Samurai 7s on top of winning multiple individual accolades. The reigning Nile Special Uspa Rugby Player of the Year has had trials before in England.
