KAMPALA. The most famous person in Uganda named Michael Ouma is a very talented guitarist with extremely limited football skills and certainly no football coaching ability.
It was thus a shock to many in the football fraternity when the name sprung up as the next Vipers head coach on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Ouma replaces Mexican Javier Martinez Espinoza who was sacked on Saturday after failing to guide the club to the Caf Champions League group stages and who reportedly fell out with his bosses and several players over his technical approach.
Ouma’s last prominent role was as Kenya’s national under-17 assistant coach in 2016 but he also coached most recently at FC Talanta in the Kenyan second division in 2013.
Ouma holds a Caf A license attained in Uganda while he also holds a coaching diploma in Brazilian coaching methodology as well as a British coaching licence level II.

The former Postal Rangers coach also guided Homegrown FC to the Kenyan Premier League in 2010 a feat he narrowly failed to replicate with Agro Chemical in 2012.
His appointment will still be seen as a surprise considering his lack of knowledge in continental and Ugandan football for the reigning league champions.
He could however link up with two Kenyan-born players with Innocent Wafula set to join namesake Noah who joined the club at the start of the season.
