Kampala. Ugandan tennis continues to reap from its re-admission to the membership of the International Tennis Federation on January 1, 2018 after a seven-year suspension.
The latest treat came in form of the ITF and CAT (Confederation of African Tennis) 12 and Under Championship that climaxed Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya.

Uganda young female trio of Eseza Muwanguzi, Maggie Namaganda and Faula Awino combined their efforts to collect gold at the championship. The tournament was played on a best of three basis where teams played two singles against each other before tussling it out in the doubles.
The Ugandan trio whitewashed Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania and Rwanda 3-0 in the round robin. They also beat Burundi 2-1 en route to setting a finals date with hosts Kenya, whom they beat 2-1.

Muwanguzi lost her match 6-3, 6-2 to Debbie Polo but Namaganda leveled as she saw off Reha Kipsang 6-2, 6-1. The two Ugandan girls combined in the doubles, this time without Awino. The beat the two Kenyans 4-6 in the first set but the losts fought back to level with 6-2 in the second. Uganda then saw it out 9-11 in the decisive set.
The boys; Junior Nyata, Troy Zziwa and Allan Otto equally had the perfect experience in the group stages seeing off Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania 3-0 then Rwanda and Burundi 2-1.

They, however, lost the finals 2-1 to Kenya. Nyata lost his match 6-0, 6-3 to Baraka Ominde. Zziwa fought back beating Raqeem Virani 6-2, 6-3 but could not stop the two Kenyan boys when he combined with Otto in the doubles (7-6, 6-1).
