At the stroke of midnight on Saturday, Miss Uganda 2011/2012 was announced. Ms Sylvia Namutebi, who had been the crowd’s favourite at the show, won the crown. She became the crowd’s darling because of the way she answered the judge’s question on how she would spend a big sum of money left to her.

“I would invest it, because as young people today, we need to have innovative and creative minds because we are the leaders of tomorrow,” she said. All the girls had been asked completely different questions.
One of the judges, Ms Magloire Kindoki of Afrikaazi Works Production said that was brilliant and intelligent of her. “Of course, we didn’t chose her because the crowd liked her, that girl is not only smart but also intelligent,” she said. The second runner up was Ms Amy Nandasi, who won a Samsung phone and the first runner up was Ms Primativa Aliguma, who won a plot of land. There also other categories that were selected during the finals; however, the search had been ongoing for these categories before the finale.

There was Miss Talent, Bridget Mpora, Miss Swimsuit, Agnes Atim, Misss Photogenic, Gloria Ayera (who will be the face of Mirinda for a year), Ms Congeniality (selected by the girls), Fay Kukundakwe, Miss Popularity (chosen by the public through voting online and sms), Ms Primativa Aliguma and then the brave Queen, Miss Phiona Ainebyona.

The brave queen, unlike other category winners, was given a tiara which caused a buzz in the crowd that thought that the show had come to an end and didn’t think that was value for their money; because apart from the evening wear that the girls had showcased, there wasn’t much on display.
After entertainment from Benon, Tonix and Grace Nakimera, the audience realised the show was still on and they were no more murmurs and complaints.

From the results in the camp regarding their character, the IQ test, respect for others and self, team work, discipline and time management, the judges had chosen the top 10 from whom they selected the top five, basing on the questions asked at the show, before the eventual winner was chosen.

The show started a little later than programmed because there were few people by the scheduled time of 8pm. However, it was a full house by 10pm when the show kicked off and some people could not find seats. On the whole, the show was good and there were no embarrassments. The girls were confident doing the catwalk and when answering questions.

The organisers, Ms Brenda Nanyonjo and Mr Kevin Zziwa got emotional as they thanked the sponsors Redds, Mirinda and Blue Cube, the girls for participating and the audience. Former Miss Uganda Heyzme Nansubuga, despite being part of the audience, didn’t hand over the crown and Ms Nanyonjo did the honours.

NBS presenters Joy Doreen Biira and Shawn Kimuli were the hosts of the night while Patrick Idringi aka Salvado, a comedian, cracked up the audience.
