Theatre Factory splits, new group; Fun Factory formed

Hardly a month after Theatre Factory kick started celebrations to mark their six years of existence in the theatre business, a huge faction has broken away leaving the group with almost no single actor. The breakaway group is now called Fun Factory and it will be acting at Pan World on Dewinton Road.

Word reaching Daily Monitor is that the breakaway faction has not been content with the direction the drama group was taking citing administrative differences.

“The company wasn’t being run properly, for instance we asked them what plans they had this year, and they did not have any. So, we all sat down and agreed to start our own group,” said Hannington Bugingo the General Manager of the breakaway group.

Bugingo stressed that money has not been an issue, but rather the way it was being spent. Those who are said to have joined this new group include Dixon Zizinga, Richard Tuwangye, Kwezi Kaganda, Frosbisher Lwanga, Evelyn Kemizinga, Ninah Katamba, Veronica Namanda, Veronica Tindikyebwa, Emma Kakai, Catherine Bagaya and Destiny Mutasa.

However, when contacted, the Theatre Factory founder Philip Luswata said that it was only one person, Hannington Bugingo who had officially resigned, and he could not comment on the rest.

“We wish them well, the problem is not them leaving, it is them leaving disrespectfully.” Luswata was confident that the group will not be affected by the break away, because they have always had plan B. “We have a pool of stand by actors, and in fact this Thursday we shall have Comedy Nite,” he said. He added that Theatre Factory was started on the principles of a company which could run without individuals but as an institution.
