The general manager of Uganda Timber Growers Association, Mr Dennis Kavuma, has emphasised the need for stakeholders to realise real value from the trees.
Mr Kavuma was speaking at the 2015 Forestry Fair, where he said there is need to take care of the forest plantations.
“Owing to the multiplicity of requirements to establish, maintain and harvest forest plantations, growers have to interface and relate with a host of other stakeholders in order to manage their businesses better,” he said.
Uganda Timber Growers Association seeks to enable information sharing to help those who have invested money to realise their dreams.
The fair was oraganised together with the Sawlog Production Grant Scheme, a government project which provides financial support and technical advice to the tree farmers as well as ensuring that standards are maintained.
The function, which was held last month in Kampala, attracted participation from a number of stakeholders, including nursery tree operators, contractors, growers, users of forest products, regulators, traders, processors, academics, scholars, students, civil society and the public. The fair reflected on the central significance of value promotion to the country as well as showcasing how forest plantation management is conducted.
