Crisp and tasty chips at Cafe Javas

Unrivalled. Chips made at Cafe Javas.

Javas Kira road is the finest and biggest of the group’s cafés and without a doubt is a success on all fronts. Design wise it is a dream, the ambiance is superb, the location is ideal and the food is predictably what one would expect at any of their locations.

Last weekend we ventured over to Javas Kira road and as usual the ever indefatigable and the seemingly irrepressible restaurant manager, Mr Tapaz holds forte and is always dashing around the place ensuring that arriving customers are never kept waiting long. He is seated while at the same time keeping a keen eye in the kitchen ascertaining that orders not only come out on time and are what the customer ordered.

Excellent food and gargantuan quantities have become the stock in trade of the Java brand and this endeavor is achieved without compromise or any let up and anyone who eats there will agree with this Java maxim. A prime example of the former is their fries which are manifestly fresh, crispy and bereft of grease and manage to tasty like real French fries. Potato chips are more often than not, the Achilles heel of many an eating joint save for the likes of the Serena Kampala Hotel or the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. Fortunately, Javas have mastered the technique of producing outstanding fries and can now rightly claim to be in that coveted league of the above 5 star establishment; at least in this regard.

The service is always efficient and the food comes out in record time; we have never waited more than 15 minutes even when they are busy. With five Javas dotted around town, I am reliably informed that they are opening a 250 seating capacity café in Entebbe that is slated to open in June of this year. Plans are at an advanced stage and without a doubt this will be the most ambitious project that they have undertaken and by any measure 500 sq meters of prime rental space is no mean challenge. I have no doubt that the Mandela Group is more than up to speed in this regard and we look forward to seeing their latest.
