Tell us a bit about yourself
I am the proprietor of Joram Model Management, a fashion show choreographer and a beauty pageant trainer. I am a down to earth born again Christian from a polygamous family. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning from Makerere University, a course which my elder sister, Drucilla Muzira, convinced me to do because she wanted me to get a desk job. I would dodge most of the lectures because of my volunteering work at African Woman magazine where I would help out designer, Sylvia Owori, with various things including organising models backstage. I graduated in 2009 with a second class lower division.
What has been your highlight so far as a model scout and trainer?
It was when one of my models under Joram Model Management, Aamito Stacey Lagum, was crowned as Africa’s Next Top Model last year. That was such a huge deal because her win opened up various opportunities for me. I have booked so many jobs. People nowadays want to work with me because I was formerly managing her. Aamito is now signed to New York based DNA model management. The other highlight is a recent one. About three weeks back, Patricia Akello, my other model was signed by South African modelling agency, Fusion Models. So, as we speak, she is right now in Cape Town. I feel that the agency is expanding. The more girls I send out there, the more clients I will be getting.
What is it like working with models and beauty queens most of the time?
I grew up with girls. I was that kind of boy who would play with them all the time. You would constantly find me playing kwepena (dodge ball). Unlike the boys, girls have more drama which I tend to blend with so well.
Has your constant association with girls affected your personality in anyway?
Not really. I am still the same person only that I look at life very differently. I relate with the boys as well but only that most of my friends are girls.
What kind of child were you while growing up?
I was a very a naughty and active one. My fondest memory was organising various fashion shows in the neighbourhood. I hated watching or playing soccer and still do up to now. And I was still very close to girls.
Are you in a relationship?
That is a very tricky one. At the moment, I am not dating any woman because my job is very sensitive. I am constantly in the company of so many beautiful girls, models and beauty queens. My previous relationship ended last year because my then girlfriend was so jealous of these girls I was working with.
How do you relate with Ellah?
We are not related in anyway. Ellah is just one of my very good friends. I got to know her for the first time last year online while scouting for girls to audition for Miss Uganda 2013. After seeing how pretty she was in pictures, I encouraged her to come to Uganda and audition. She was in London at the time finalising with her studies. Eventually, when she jetted into the country to contest for the crown which she did actually win, I kept showing her my support through mentorship.
Did you also encourage her to join Big Brother Africa?
Yes, I was one of those people who convinced her to go for it as well. And when she finally made it to the house, I continued supporting her. I kept posting messages on my Face book wall urging people to vote for her until the time she was evicted last Sunday.
Have you personally auditioned for the reality show?
Yes, I have. This year was actually my fifth time. I will give it one more shot next year and if I do not make it, I guess then Big Brother Africa is not meant for me.
What is the biggest misconception people have about you?
They take my seriousness for my work for being bitchy (malicious) with a diva like personality. They say that I act like a demigod. I only tend to act wild sometimes because the models do not get it right if you are never tough on them.
What is the one thing you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances?
Pimp my models. It is something that I often make clear to people. I know that the money is sometimes tempting from such deals but I always insist on turning them all down because I believe that being clean is the way to go. It takes time to build a name and it takes just one occurrence to ruin it. However long it takes me to get there, I know I will get there.
