Brig Rwehururu laid to rest

NTUNGAMO- Former chairman of the military court Brig Bernard Rwehururu, has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Ruhoko village, Rugarama Sub-county in Ntungamo District.

Mourners yesterday described him as a counsellor, humorous speaker and strong leader.
Speaking as a friend to the deceased, the Rev Fr Aloysious Banyenzaki, said while he was destined to join church leadership as a priest, Rwehururu opted to join military service where he thought he would serve more people than in church.

“We all knew he would serve best as a priest. When we finished seminary, he told me he was not going to Katigondo and opted to join the army. But still, I thought all he was doing to be related to priesthood, his nurturing was that of the seminarian,” Fr Banyenzaki said.

Brig Rwehururu joined the army in 1965. He held several responsibilities, including being a minister for Justice between 1976 -1978 under President Idi Amin. He served as the chairman of General Court Martial between 2009 and 2011. He retired from the army in 2013.

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Katumba Wamala said UPDF has lost one of the most experienced soldier.
