A 42-year-old man has died after drinking excessive alcohol in Kwania District.

Nixon Odur, has been receiving medical treatment from his home at Adwong-Owiri Village in Atongtidi Sub County, Kwania District after drinking one litre of local brew (waragi) on Wednesday.

It is reported that the peasant farmer took the alcohol after developing misunderstandings with his wife.

“This man had one wife and seven children. He had been telling people that his wife and children are giving him a lot of headache, so he would be leaving home soon,” Mr Dickens Onea, the deceased’s neighbour, said.

Mr Denis Edam, the area LC1 chairperson, confirmed Odur’s death, saying he died when preparations to take him to the hospital were underway.

“We tried to take him to the hospital but he was too weak. So we decided to call a nurse who was treating him from his home, but his condition kept deteriorating and eventually died. It is so unfortunate,” he said.

Mr Patrick Onyum Okwang, the Atongtidi LC3 chairperson, condemned the act saying alcoholism is not a solution to any problem.

This is not the first case of death by excessive drinking of alcohol in Lango sub-region. Last month, a 28-year-old man died in Apac District after drinking half a litre of waragi in a competition.
