NUP aspiring MP candidate dies in car crash

  • Dr Abdul Noor Kaliisa, an elder brother to Next Media Services proprietor, Mr Kin Kaliisa, died suddenly Wednesday evening upon returning home.

Staffers of Next Media Services, an entity that runs NBS Television, and four other people were last evening involved in a fatal motor accident along Masaka –Mbarara highway.

According to NBS’ Masaka correspondent Farish Magembe, the Member of Parliament aspirant under National Unity Platform (NUP) party died on spot.

“The victims were travelling to Ntungamo District to attend burial of Dr Abdul-Noor Annas Kaliisa. They knocked a motorcyclist at Kyazanga trading centre, and in an attempt to save him, their car swerved off the road and hit an electric pole ,” Mr Magembe who is attending to the survivors at Kitovu Hospital , said on Friday morning

Magembe told the Daily Monitor that Bashir Pablo- the chief of protocol of NBS’ chief executive officer, Mr Kin Kaliisa, sustained serious injuries and he is admitted at Kitovu Hospital, Masaka city.

Others, Uthuman Matovu (driver), Jawuharah Nagayi and Hannah Nakitto suffered broken hands and legs.

The victims were travelling in a Toyota Mark X registration number UBG169S.

The accident occurred at around 6pm.

Southern Regional Traffic Police Commander, Mr Godfrey Mwesigye warned motorists against speeding.
“A big number of accidents happening in the region are a result of speeding and this  particular accident could have been avoided if the driver was not over speeding,” he said

Katongole had expressed interest in challenging incumbent Bukoto [Masaka] Member of parliament and Vice president Mr Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

He stepped aside when NUP handed the ticket to city lawyer Majeran Kazibwe.

Dr Abdul Noor Kaliisa, an elder brother to Mr Kin Kaliisa died suddenly Wednesday evening upon returning home.

He was a renowned Muslim scholar and senior political analyst on NBS television.
