MAKERERE.

Papa Were Salim, an Independent candidate has been declared winner of the Makerere University guild race. He was followd by Edward Kinene of the Democratic Party.

The voting happened on Wednesday and hundreds of students waited eagerly for the announcement of the winner amid ululations.

This was happening amid top security as some students had been causing chaos and throwing stones.

The two highly contesting sides (Were and Kinene's supporters) attacked each other on several occasions but police quelled the confrontations without use of tear gas or bullets as it has sometimes been in the past.

Papa Were Salim, a medical student is a resident of Nsibirwa Hall also known as North Cote State.
