Moyo
The Criminal Investigation Directorate headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala has summoned four officials from Moyo District, including two MPs, over the past border clashes between Ugandans and South Sudanese.

The MPs include Obongi County MP Hassan Kaps Fungaroo and West Moyo County MP Tom Aleru. Also summoned is former district Woman MP Anne Auru and former LC5 chairman Jimmy Vukoni.

According to a summon letter, a copy of which Daily Monitor has obtained, it is alleged that in September 2014, clashes between the Madi community in Moyo and Kuku community of Kajo-Keji County in South Sudan resulted in loss of lives of about 17 people, cattle raiding, burning houses and robbery.

“The top four leaders being then leaders participated in the mobilisation and leading the alleged two communities during the alleged violence,” the letter reads in part.

Mr Fungaroo confirmed to Daily Monitor on Monday that he received his summon letter last Friday, but accused government of inaction.

“To Ugandans in Moyo, this was a deliberate act of provocation but the government of Uganda did not bother to challenge it,” he said.

Ms Auru said she had already recorded her statement over the matter.
She said when the conflict erupted, the Ugandan security personnel seemed more concerned about protecting the South Sudanese traders and their businesses in Moyo at the expense of Ugandan citizens.
