Preserve our culture, says Kabaka Mutebi

WAKISO.

The Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, has appealed to teachers to inculcate cultural values and preserve Luganda language in schools.
The Kabaka said it’s through culture and language that traditional institutions can be sustained.

“We need our children to be taught culture and Luganda in schools because it’s the only way we can save Buganda and propagate our values,” the Kabaka said.
“Culture cannot exist without language and that’s why I task schools to teach Luganda,” the monarch said.

The King was speaking during the Buganda schools music festival in Wakiso last weekend. Several schools exhibited different items at the function.
The Kabaka called for more Luganda novels to be written so as to promote the widely spoken language.

“Parents should buy Luganda novels for their children because not all good things are found in English novels,” he said.
Katikiro Charles Peter Mayinga urged parents to educate their children, saying education is the key to success.

“Without education, our children cannot have a bright future. Let us all pay schools fees for our children,” Mr Mayiga said.

Culture

We need teachers to teach our children culture and Luganda language in schools because it’s the only way we can save Buganda and propagate our values.
