Nakasero mosque police raid: 14 released, four to be charged

The suspects who were today transferred from Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja District to Kampala Central Polic Station were released by Police Flying Squad Unit which led the raid

Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani said court has no jurisdiction to hear their case.
“If you want bail, you should go to High Court,” he said.
The suspects are being defended by Fred Muwema and Friday Robert Kagoro.
Mr Muwema told court that the accused have a complaint against Mr Wilson Omoding, the senior commissioner of Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja District.
Muwema asked court to issue criminal summons against Mr Omoding over unlawful confinement saying he has been holding the accused persons beyond the mandated 48 hours without prosecution.

Sheikh Mwanje was arrested on November 27, Buyondo and Sendegeya on December 5 while Sekandi was arrested on December 26.
However, state led by Ms Emily Ninsiima said they were not ready for the application summoning commissioner Omoding and asked court to give them more time to prepare.
In his response, Mr Muwema contended that the state has no role to play in such an application because Omoding is free to even hire a private lawyer if he so wishes to defend himself over allegations of illegal confinement of the suspects.
The Chief Magistrate then adjourned the case to January 20 for a ruling on whether to summon commissioner Omoding.
