UPDF to fill Sejusa seat in House this month - EC

KAMPALA- The UPDF will elect Gen David Sejusa’s successor in Parliament this month, officials have said.
Gen Sejusa was thrown out of Parliament last year after he missed more than 15 sittings of the House, leaving only nine representatives of the UPDF in Parliament.
The former spy chief fled to exile in April following a fallout with President Museveni, his long-time ally and bush war comrade.
The Electoral Commission spokesperson, Mr Jotham Taremwa, said on Friday that the Commission was only waiting for information from the Defence ministry before setting the election date.
“What I can say is that that election is going to be there this month,” Mr Taremwa said.
The army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, said the UPDF had already started the process to replace Gen Sejusa with some names already being fronted. But he declined to reveal the names.
“The Electoral Commission has notified us that there is a gap in Parliament and we are preparing accordingly to get a new Member of Parliament,” Lt Col Ankunda said.
Asked how soon the required information would be handed to the Electoral Commission, the army spokesperson said: “As soon as the President decides on the names and nominates the people he would like the Defence Forces Council to vote for, the Electoral Commission will be notified accordingly.”
