What you need to know:

  • Fufa have eight regions with 90 district football associations. They are Eastern (18), West Nile (9), Western (10), North East (10), Northern (11), Kitara (12), Buganda (15) and Kampala (five).

Seven Fufa executive members enjoyed a smooth sail in the just-concluded District Football Associations elections held Saturday with most going through unopposed.

Fufa president Moses Magogo’s deputies Justus Mugisha (schools association), Darius Mugoye (Kampala) and Florence Nakiwala (UPL clubs) were not involved.
Executive committee (Exco) members retained include Rogers Byamukama (Masindi), Hamid Juma (Nakawa), and Rogers Mulindwa (Luweero). The others are Richard Ochom (Kumi), Ariga Rasoul (Yumbe) Chrizestom Kalibbala (Sheema), and Agnes Mugena (Soroti - woman).

Buganda representative Hajj Abdul Lukooya Sekabiira and Northern counterpart Mukiidi Kalyebala did not take part.
Apart from the lack of opposition, several other positions, including women’s delegates, could not be filled. Some cited the “exorbitant” nomination fees set by the Fufa electoral committee.

Candidates for chairman and delegates were required to pay Shs200,000, while special interest groups (players, coaches and referees delegates) Shs50,000.
“I think this [high fees] is not good for football development. I believe it locked out some candidates,” Sabiiti Muwanga, who was elected chairman Butambala DFA, told Daily Monitor.

Fufa EC vice-chairman Joram Katende dismissed the claims, but promised to release a statement on the matter.
