KAMPALA. To Proline defender Hakim Sendi, the Stanbic Uganda Cup victory on Saturday over Bright Stars was a success he did not deserve, but his mother.
After a brilliant display in the game that ended 1-1 in normal time, Sendi and Mustapha Mujuzi formed a dream partnership and they played like possessed men.

He actually had Proline’s best chance of the game in the 70th minute when he pounced on a loose ball following a Bright Anukani corner kick but Hamza Muwonge expertly pushed the ball out for another fruitless corner.
For one reason, both were playing before what they call home crowd.
Mujuzi was with the dominant Masaka SS until 2015 while Sendi played for the same school until 2011. After Proline won the penalty shootout 5-4, Mujuzi fell to his knees and wept before he joined in jubilant celebrations along with his teammates.

When reality had sunk in, Sendi took the chance to soak up the atmosphere with his mother, Hawa Babirye, who had been accompanied by a grand daughter and another friend.
Sendi told Daily Monitor that he is extremely close to his mother who raised him as a single parent. He preferred not to say what happened with his dad.

But he revealed that his mother is everything since his early school days as she raised him in Kyabakuza, Masaka Municipality.
“My mother calls me every time and whenever things are hard she tells me to keep pushing,” Sendi said with teary eyes.
He made a lovely gesture to his mother after taking a number of pictures celebrating with his teammates and his hard won Stanbic Uganda Cup medal, he presented Babirye with the winners’ medal.
“I may never win this again and she’s the right person to keep such memories,” he said.
