Van Persie, Memphis Depay fight in training

Holland manager Danny Blind has confirmed that Manchester United star Memphis Depay and former Red Devils ace Robin van Persie were involved in a training ground bust-up ahead of their game against Kazakhstan.

Van Persie was sidelined as the Dutch kept their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2016 alive with a victory against Kazakhstan, with the media believing that the confrontation between Depay and Van Persie caused the ex-Arsenal star to be left out.

However, Blind, whose son Daley also plays for United, claims that Van Persie’s exclusion was due to his current level of fitness rather than punishment for his bust-up with Depay.

“It was a discussion during training about a ball that should have been given over. Things like that happen often. There are sometimes situations in training where players think differently. That’s what happened and then it was over," Blind said.

“I felt that he was not fit enough to start. I think that’s down to the fact that he has not played without pain for quite a while," he added.

Holland will need everything to go in their favour with just one game remaining to qualify for the Euros next summer, with the fourth place Dutch needing Iceland to beat third place Turkey to have any chance of progressing when they play the Czech Republic this week.
