Kitata ends three-year wait

Kitata (L) read his putting lines with precision as he rallied to win his first ever Uganda Golf Open title last Saturday at Kitante. Deo Akope (R) won the Shs102m pros category.

What you need to know:

THE 72nd UGANDA GOLF OPEN. Barring the little drama on the No.17 when Kitata allegedly marked a different spot for the ball, the Entebbe-bred talent lived up to the billing as the country’s best.

The reigning Uspa Golfer of the Year Willy Deus Kitata calls himself ‘Public Enemy and East Africa’s finest’.

But who says he isn’t either. It was third-time lucky for the man who is loved and loathed in equal measure as he won his first Tusker Uganda Open title after three years of choking in the final round.

In his way was 21-year-old Adolf Muhumuza, who beat fatigue after helping Uganda reclaim the Johnnie Walker East Africa Challenge Trophy in Entebbe a fortnight ago. His only undoing was the single shot he miscued and fell into the Kitante stream hence losing the sudden death playoff on No.12.
