Apaa land conflict: Rugunda meets Acholi, Adjumani leaders

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda is today meeting the 16 selected committee members from Adjumani and Amuru district over Apaa land conflict.
The meeting that is ongoing at Gulu state lodge in 4th Division Army barracks, Gulu municipality is a follow up on President Museveni's decision to bring to an end conflict over the Apaa land.
President Museveni late last month gave three options to the leaders in the two districts and ordered for selection of an eight member committee to discuss on the options within three weeks and the resolutions handed over to him.
The President also appointed Dr Rugunda to head the committee over the contentious land bordering Amuru and Adjumani districts.
Speaking to the committee members in his opening remarks, Dr Rugunda said the meeting will offer a great opportunity to bring the Apaa land issues to a logical and sustainable conclusion.

"We are here to bring to an end what the President has been handling for sometime now. After our deliberation we shall go back and report to His Excellency and Cabinet about the progress over this matter," Dr Rugunda.
He said the meeting will help to bring an end issues that have been bothering the two communities in Acholi and Madi
"The fact that the Apaa matter has remained unresolved, it has been bad for the people living in Apaa area. Development tempo has been affected, there has been stresses and strains. The purpose of this meeting is therefore to ensure that those issues now become the past," Dr Rugunda said.
Dr Rugunda noted that he hopes the meeting bears fruit and the leaders’ strike a win-win solution that will usher in sustained development for the two communities. Journalists were not allowed to proceed with the meeting.
Key government dignitaries in attendance are Lands Minister Betty Amongi, First Deputy Prime Minister Gen Moses Ali, local government Minister Jennifer Namuyango, and State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda.
Others are State Minister of Internal Affairs Kania Obiga, Minister for Primary Health Care Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, government surveyors among others.
