Shock engulfed residents of Kajjansi on Friday night when a man committed suicide by jumping at Entebbe Expressway flyover along Entebbe Road, Wakiso District.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, identified the man who took his own life as John Kata Mwebaze, a 30-year-old whose suicide motive is yet to be established.

“At 8:20 pm a case of suicide was recorded at Kajjansi police station, Mwebaze John Kata aged 30 years allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the flyover and died instantly,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Police visited the scene, recorded accounts from eye witnesses before the body was taken to Mulago for post mortem.

Past incident

In February, a 49 year old man in Kasangati in Wakiso District reportedly committed suicide accusing his wife of having extra marital relationships.

Abdul Mayanja, who was a resident of Kiwalimo village in Kasangati town ended his life after he found his second wife’s home under lock and key suspecting that she had gone to meet another man like he had previously been briefed by a friend.

Mr Owoyesigyire then said Mayanja got a rumour that his wife had been cheating on him and rushed there to prove the allegations. He reached the home and tried to inquire from neighbours and he was told his wife had left the home hours back.

Police said the deceased opened the house and removed dry cells from a television remote, crushed them before he mixed them in water and drunk the poisonous liquid.
