What you need to know:

Although Matsiko had initially accused FDC officials of election malpractices, NRM has today morning conceded defeat according to a press release issued by Rogers Mulindwa, the party’s Communications Officer.

The race to the Rukungiri Woman MP seat came to an end yesterday night with Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Betty Muzanira being declared winner of the by-election.

Muzanira beat her National Resistance Movement (NRM) rival Winfred Matsiko by over 4200 votes.

Although Matsiko had initially accused FDC officials of election malpractices, NRM has today morning conceded defeat according in a press release issued by Rogers Mulindwa, the party’s Communications Officer.

“Going by the official results released by the Electoral Commission earlier this morning, we lost the by-election in Rukungiri to FDC,” the release read.

He added that the NRM Secretary General Ms Justine Kasule Lumumba will soon table the election results before the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for further administrative guidance.

“We however continue to express dismay over the errant party members who opposed the official party position and never walked the journey with us. NRM lost the race but there are good signs of winning the bigger battle in this area in future,” he said, adding that, “From Rukungiri we are going back to the drawing board to evaluate ourselves and set winning strategies for the pending by-elections.”
