Police arrest three people over defilement

The suspects are identified as John Asiimwe,19, the alleged defiler, Frogensi Akizimana his father and Scola Kemirembe the mother of the girl.

Police in Kisoro District have arrested three people for marrying off a 16-year- old girl whose name has not been identified

The Kigezi region spokesman, Mr Elly Mate, confirmed the arrests and said the case vide CRB 248/2018 is registered at Kisoro police station.

He identified the suspects as; John Asiimwe,19, the alleged defiler, Frogensi Akizimana his father and Scola Kemirembe the mother of the girl, all residents of Bizenga village Nyondo Sub-County in Kisoro District.

According to Mr Matte, the girl got married five months ago and has been cohabiting with Asiimwe until Sunday morning when they went to Bizenga Catholic Church for holy matrimony which was to be presided over by Rev Fr Joseph Sebatware of Mutolere parish.

Police received information and was swift enough to pick them from church before the wedding.
Mr Matte said father of the girl is currently on the run.
