Onyango names Cranes side for Oktoberfest 7s

KAMPALA.

Rugby Sevens Cranes coach Tolbert Onyango has named the 12 man squad to represent Uganda at the inaugural Oktoberfest sevens at the Olympic Stadium Munich, German on the weekend of September 29-30.
The chosen 12 are not so different from those that kept being summoned last year when Uganda graced the international scene with cameos as an invitational side in the HSBC World Sevens Rugby series at the Dubai and Cape Town legs. Uganda also finished as quarterfinalists at the HSBC World Sevens Rugby Series Qualifiers in Hong Kong.
Of the 12, only 20year old Black Pirates` Desire Ayera comes into the side without ever experiencing sevens rugby at the top level, having enjoyed his second season at Pirates before Onyango could summon him into the Cranes setup.
Brian Kikawa returns to the side after years of absence and he`s joined by James Ijongat whose knee problems kept him out of the side for a huge part of last year before he returned for Betway Kobs in the early stages of the ongoing National Sevens Circuit.
Uganda is drawn in a tough pool B alongside England, Argentina and hosts Germany. The showpiece has been identified as a dress rehearsal for Uganda a week before they attempt to defend their Africa Cup Sevens title they won last year in Nairobi.
