  • Soccer. The Ugandan champions will require a win of any kind to become the first ever domestic club to make the lucrative group stages of the Caf Champions League

KAMPALA.

Among the few positives KCCA carried away from the Caf Champions League barren draw with St George on Wednesday was registering a rare away clean sheet.
Yet KCCA manager Mike Mutebi says it may haunt them in the return leg at Lugogo on March 17 if they rest on their laurels.
“It is going to be difficult because we failed to score however we are advantageous because we are home.
“I would be confident if we played a team that was not creative but I know St George will create chances,” Mutebi revealed.
He admitted to changing his philosophy to contain St George in Addis Ababa.
“Their game approach was good. They made us organize together as a team and forced us not to play our game. We were more defensive to negate their passing.”
Mutebi predicts a tougher onslaught from the Ethiopians who had Ugandan custodian Robert Odongkara to thank not to concede from Paul Mucureezi and Allan Okello shots. Derrick Nsibambi rattled the crossbar from a header off a Kizza Mustafa delivery down the left flank. KCCA custodian Charles Lukwago also pulled off a couple of reflex saves particularly when he denied Tamene Acchalew a glaring scoring chance.
“It is not going to be easy because each one of us has a point. The result was good for us but it is not going to be easy. Not scoring makes it dangerous for us because we are playing a very good team which uses the ball very well and made us think.
St George head coach Manuel Vaz Pinto says they partly achieved their objectives in first leg.
“The first goal was winning, the second is not conceding but the opponent was difficult. KCCA has spaces we shall explore in the return leg,” said the Portuguese.
He said he saw improvement in his team, sitting third on the Ethiopian league log, but was concerned his main striker Abubeker Sani Abdela ‘wasn’t smart in his movement, had few scoring opportunities yet they heavily bank on his experience and proficiency.’
The Ugandan champions will advance should they manage a win of any kind.
