KAMPALA. In the wake of Uganda’s 4-1 loss to Tanzania in the Cecafa Women Championship on Monday, captain Tracy Jones Akiror took to her Facebook page to make her feelings known.
“Tetukiriza,” she posted. Loosely translated to “we shall not give up.”
Today, Akiror and her teammates have a chance to show more than what they feel when they face hosts Rwanda at Stade de Kigali.

Rwanda beat Uganda’s tormentors Taifa Stars 1-0 on the opening day to enhance their reputation and indeed this tournament’s but also suffered a setback when they lost 0-3 to Ethiopia on Monday. Uganda need to beat Rwanda to win the trophy as they have a better head to head record than Ethiopia – the only other side that would then be able to extend their points to nine if they beat Kenya and Tanzania today and on Friday respectively.

Recovery mission
The biggest task for Crested Cranes coach Faridah Bulega, is to show that her team can recover, just within 48 hours, from the impediment they faced when their morale was high owing to wins against the bullish Ethiopia (2-1) and Kenya (0-1).

“We are working hard as a technical team to ensure we can get the desired result. But we also need prayers from everyone at home,” Bulega, whose side will again rely on the setpieces that have seen them score four times in this tournament, said.
