It may be too early to be looking at the Uganda Premier League table standing after Onduparaka, and not pre-season favourites KCCA and Vipers, top the log but it suggests much more.

KCCA manager Mike Mutebi can – to an extent - afford to laugh off the six-point gap between his 10th placed side and surprise leaders Onduparaka because of the two games at hand, a luxury Edward Golola’s Venoms can’t enjoy for now after drawing their last two matches against Mbarara City and SC Villa to fall four points off the pace.

Yet both sides have potential banana skin challenge in front of them this afternoon as KCCA welcomes a Bright Stars side that has just held URA to a barren draw while at St Mary’s Stadium, Vipers battle Express conquerors Proline, still riding high on the continent. Mutebi is not pressing the panic button yet promising a positive reaction when his team gets to action again.

“It (losing to Tooro United on Wednesday) is part of the game, those are our best players. I would be worried if we are not creating chances but we created them and earned genuine penalties but failed to convert them,” Mutebi said after the 1-0 loss in Fort Portal.
KCCA will hope Muzamir Mutyaba, Mustapha Kizza and Sadat Anaku are back to full fitness.

Vipers will still be without striker Muhammad Shaban against Proline but may welcome back defender Geoffrey Wasswa after a nine-month injury layoff. Elsewhere, Sam Ssimbwa will be charged with stopping URA’s free-fall that has put him in the firing line when they face second placed Bul at Namboole.
