MPIGI. At least 16 people have been reported critically injured in a nasty accident at Buyaaya village near Mbizzinya Market along Kampala - Masaka highway.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 8:20am Sunday and involved four cars; two commuter taxi vehicles, a Fuso lorry and a trailer.
Mr Paul Kalema, an eyewitness told Sunday Monitor that the driver of a Lyantonde-bound speeding taxi registration number UAX 462B was trying to overtake another taxi in a sharp corner along the road, only to knock a parked Congo-bound cargo trailer registration number CG7330AA19.

The trailer was reportedly parked after it developed a mechanical fault on the way during night.
"...within few seconds, another speeding Fuso truck registration number UAT 333M heading to Masaka side, failed to brake and eventually knocked these ones," he narrated.
" Mostly affected victims were the occupants of the speeding taxi that was heading to Kampala from Lyantonde. They sustained serious injuries on heads, broken limbs, hands and ribs, among others," Mr. Kalema added.
The police spokesman in Katonga region Mr Phillip Mukasa attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving, negligence, indiscipline and over speeding.

"We have traffic officers deployed on this road especially in black spots but if some drivers don’t stop being foolish while driving, we shall continue seeing these accidents. They should come back to their senses and stop wasting people’s lives," he cautioned.
The injured were rushed to Nkozi Hospital and nearby clinics for treatment while the wreckages of vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Buwama police station as investigations continue.
This is a second accident along this road in just two days in almost the same town of Buwama.
Another one occurred on Saturday where two people died and scores injured in a five-car crash at Kalandazzi swamp near Mitalamaria Catholic Parish.
