Five children of a businessman at Kahompo village, Bufunjo Sub County in Kyenjojo District, western Uganda have been hacked to death by unidentified assailants.

The incident reportedly happened at about 1am on Thursday.

Police has identified the deceased as Barbra Atuhairwe, 7, Oscar Alinganiza, 4, Linnet Ayinebyona, 3, Davis Tulinomugisha, 2 and one-month-old Abwooli.

The deceased were all children of Tumwebaze Joseph, a businessman and resident of Kahompo village.
"Unknown thugs broke the glass door and gained access to the house, locked one Gerald Akampulira, a relative into his room and they entered Tumwebaze's room where they found his wife sleeping. They asked for his whereabouts but she said she did not know," the Regional Police Spokesperson Rwenzori West, ASP Lydia Tumushabe said.
Police say the assailants hacked all the children to death, beat up the wife before they carried and dumped her in Kahompo river from where she was later rescued by the residents.

According to detectives, Tumwebaze had travelled to Kasese District at the time his home was attacked.
His wife is currently undergoing treatment at a private medical facility in Kyenjojo District.
A police team led by the Kyenjojo District CID Officer rushed to the scene Thursday morning.
"The assailants did not take any money or property from the house. They kept asking for the whereabouts of Tumwebaze. We are still investigating the motive of the killing," Ms Tumushabe added.
By press time, no suspect had been arrested.
