Mukono- A mobile money agent who has been operating in Kapeke village Nama Sub-county, Mukono District was Tuesday killed.

Police say Rebecca Namugaanyi, 22, hailed from Ngogwe in Buikwe District.

The attacker[s] slit her throat and abandoned the body in her rented room.

Neighbours say, Namugaanyi received a male visitor on Monday and spent several hours with him in the mobile money shop.

Ms Alice Nakku, who lives near Namugaanyi’s house said they suspected the visitor to be her boyfriend.

"We went to sleep as usual and they [Namugaanyi and her visitor] also closed the [mobile money] shop. We were shocked to find her dead in the morning," Ms Nakku said.

She said a client who wanted to carry out a transaction at the mobile money shop in the morning, is the one who found out that she was dead.

“Since the main door was closed, the client decided to use the rear entrance thinking that she [Namugaanyi] was busy doing some domestic chores, only to land on her body lying in a pool of blood,” she said.

She said that several empty beer bottles and pieces of chicken were found in the room.

According to Namugaanyi’s neighbours, she had spent two weeks in the area.

It is suspected that the killer[s] took an unspecified amount of cash.

Mr Ronald Mubiru, Namugaanyi’s employer said he got from her parents in Buikwe District.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr Samuel Buzibire who went to the crime scene said they are waiting for an autopsy from Kawolo Hospital as investigations continue.

Last month, two women were shot dead when five armed robbers raided a mobile money shop in Zana Cell, Bunamwaya, Wakiso District.

Harriet Naluwadde and her worker Moreen Nakabuubi, both residents of Zana Cell were shot dead by the attackers who were riding on three motor cycles.

Police have since asked mobile money dealers in the country to hire private security guards.
