President Museveni has pledged to support his Democratic Republic of Congo counterpart, Joseph Kabila to purge rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces who are still a threat to the security of the two countries.

Mr Museveni who held bilateral talks with Mr Kabila two countries said he is ready to help the DR Congo to pursue the ADF remnants by deploying the UPDF to pursue the rebels in the in the neighbouring country.

Speaking in Kiswahili, Mr Museveni said he is “ready as usual” to flush out the ADF rebels whose leader, Jamil Mukulu was arrested in Tanzania and is now in jail and facing prosecution.

President Museveni had earlier received Mr Kabila at the Uganda/Congo border post of Mpondwe in Bwera, Kasese District before the two leaders held bilateral talks at Mweya Safari lodge, Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The two leaders also discussed cross-border trade and tourism since both Uganda and DR Congo share Virunga National Park a major tourist attraction.

While responding to a question from a journalist, President Museveni wondered why M23 rebels had not returned to their country, adding that he would inquire from their commander who was present.

Mr Kabila says people have a false perception that the country would not be able to organise general elections.
“We have organised elections on two occasions. Elections are organised by an independent Electoral Commission.

In order for them to be organised, we need a voters registrar and registration,” he said. We have started voter registration. It will take time but as soon as the voters register is available, we shall have an election.
