Police officer shoots at wife, colleague over infidelity

Cpl Richard Okidi had for some time suspected his wife, Ms Teddy Koikoi, of having an extramarital affair with his colleague, Augustine Mubule, who is attached to Canine Police section.

A police officer attached to Soroti Police Barracks at the weekend fired several bullets into his house after he suspected his colleague of having sexual intercourse with his wife.

Cpl Richard Okidi had for some time suspected his wife, Ms Teddy Koikoi, of having an extramarital affair with his colleague, Augustine Mubule, who is attached to Canine Police section.

On the fateful day, Cpl Okidi, who was on night shift guarding offices of one corporate entity in Soroti, is said to have returned to the barracks at 6am on Sunday morning, only to find his colleague allegedly having sex with his wife.

The two, who had left the door open, did not notice his presence, according to witnesses.
He sneaked out of the house and rushed back to pick his gun.

Cpl Okidi fired bullets into his house with the intention of killing his colleague and wife.
The two, however, escaped.

“Our driver survived death, we were woken up from sleep by the endless gun shots and we took cover,” one terrified officer said.

Ms Koikoi, however, said the police officer entered their house to pick a shoe brush that his husband had borrowed the previous day.

“It is not true that we were having sex. You know the setup of these police houses, we use the same doors that lead to different partitions,” Ms Koikoi said.

One of the medical officers at police barracks’ health centre III, who asked not to be named to speak freely, said Cpl Okidi has for long been complaining about the wife’s extra-marital affair with the police officer.

He said Cpl Okidi returns home between 7am and 8am but changed schedule and returned early.
The medical officer said normality only returned when the regional police commander, Mr Maxwell Ogwal, intervened.

The East Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr Michael Odongo, said the suspect is in custody over the charges of attempted murder.
