Kiboga woman shot dead in Iganga bar

IGANGA-Police in Iganga District are hunting for a man who is suspected to have shot dead a woman at Colombano Bar in Iganga Town on Wednesday night.
Ms Diana Nankabirwa, popularly known as Shakira, was fatally shot by a man described by police as 'having had a laptop bag and was seated near the corridor while taking a bottle of beer in the bar'.
The deceased is said to have been a sex worker along Main Street in Iganga Town.

According to eyewitnesses, on seeing the bag, the deceased and her two male companions approached the man and requested him for some money to free their friend who was in police custody.

Mr Moses Gele, who witnessed the incident that midnight said that when the man declined to give them money, they started beating him up.
"He was slapped before Shakira grabbed his bottle and hit him on the head; and on realizing that he was bleeding, he opened the laptop bag and drew a gun which he used to shoot the woman as her accomplices fled," Mr Gele said.
"The man", Mr Gele added, "was shabbily dressed that no one knew that he had a gun in the bag."
Ms Jane Edinansi, another resident, said the deceased was shot in the ribs.

Mr David Ndaula, the Iganga District Police Commander, said investigations are ongoing.
"A woman was shot and our detectives are on the ground to establish the cause and the suspect who is still at large," he said.
The deceased was born in Lwamata, Kiboga District, and it is where her body was taken for burial, her friends said, adding that she left behind a three-week-old daughter.
