The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces killed three suspected Karimojong warriors on Monday and captured one, in a UPDF ambush in Kotido.

The 3rd Division spokesperson, Maj. Telesphar  Turyamumanya confirmed the incident saying the  warriors from Rupa sub county in Moroto district had raided animals from Nakapelimoru sub county in Kotido District.

Turyamumanya said the army recovered 35 cows that the warriors had raided and which they were taking to Moroto via Kenya, Uganda border.

He said they also recovered one machine gun adding that the army has increased its operations and will deal with the cattle rustlers.

“They were 19 warriors. Some were armed and they succeeded in raiding the animals, so when the army got information about the raid we laid an ambush. At around 11pm of Monday they landed in our ambush; we killed three and injured one,” he said.

Maj. Turyamumanya said the army is keeping and treating the one who got injured to help the army with information.

Meanwhile the level of peace in Karamoja is decreasing following the incidents of road ambushes and cattle raids by the Karimojong and the Turkana.

On Friday last week a Member of Parliament for Kibale county Mr Richard Oseku Oriebo survived an ambushed laid by suspected Karimojong warriors. Mr Oseku was traveling to attend the wedding anniversary of one of his friends when his vehicle was shot at. Luckily, neither he nor any of his family members got injured in the ambush.
