KAMPALA. George Mukhobe, the assistant coach of the Uganda baseball team, agrees that there is no clear favourite when the Baseball Africa Cup begins today at Boksburg arena in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Uganda is among the six countries in the line-up vying for a single pre-Olympic qualifying slot in the round-robin tournament to make Tokyo 2020 games. Mukhobe is full of admiration for his squad and said the best team will take the day. “There are no clear favourites.

Even Burkina Faso, who have just embraced the sport emerged winners from West Africa ahead of Nigeria and Ghana. South Africa are good but we have shown a lot of potential lately,” Mukhobe said. Uganda will open their campaign against Burkina Faso today before taking on the hosts tomorrow. Games against Zimbabwe and Nigeria will follow in that order.

The winner of the Africa Cup will advance to the Europe-Africa Olympic qualifier, to be staged in Parma and Bologna, Italy, from September 18-22. The winner of the tourney in Italy will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while the runner-up will advance to the final qualifier, to be played in Chinese Taipei next year.
