AFCON 2019: Okwi, Kenya's Olunga lead scorers chart

Uganda’s Emmanuel Okwi is among the three leading strikers at the on-going 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with two goals to his name.
The Tanzanian based striker scored in the 2-0 Group A win over DR Congo in the opening match before he also netted in the 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe.
“I am very happy that after missing the 2017 AFCON in Gabon I am now one of the leading scorers at the tournament,” Okwi said on Saturday night.

Kenya’s striker Micheal Olunga

Kenya’s striker Micheal Olunga and Benin’s Mickael Pote are the other two players with two goals scored after 24 games played. Olunga who plies his trade in Japan netted a brace in the 3-2 win over Tanzania in Group C, while Pote also picked a double in the 2-2 draw all against Ghana in Group F.
Okwi is hoping to increase his tally in the tournament when Uganda face hosts Egypt in the last Group A game on Sunday night at the Cairo International Stadium.

The other stars who have netted a goal each include; Odion Jude Ighaho (Nigeria), Balde Dio Keita (Senegal), Riyad Karim Mahrez (Algeria) Mbwana Ally Samatta (Tanzania) and the brothers from Ghana Andrew Ayew and Jordan Ayew.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Mali are the teams that have already qualified to the stage of 16. The 2019 AFCON which kicked of on June 21st will climax on July 21st.
