SOCCER. Bashir Mutanda scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after the lively Albert Mugisa saw his effort hit defender Kelvin Barni’s in first half.

KAMPALA. Douglas Bamweyana got off to a winning start as SC Villa coach as his side grinded out a 1-0 away win against Nyamityobora at Wankulukuku for their first three points this season.

But as he acknowledged after the game, a lot needs to change if the record 16-time league champions are to disassociate themselves from relegation talk.
“I am not correcting any mistakes because my approach is different. I’m imparting a different philosophy and in the first half we showed a few glimpses of that. But it will take time,” Bamweyana said after the game.

Bashir Mutanda scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after the lively Albert Mugisa saw his effort hit defender Kelvin Barni’s arm midway through the first half. They then wasted several goalscoring opportunities with Joseph Ssemujju the most guilty party before a late surge from Nyamityobora almost yielded a goal.
“We gave Villa too much respect in the first half but in the second we took the game to them. There are positives to pick going forward,” new Nyamityobora coach Asaph Mwebaze stated.

Unbeaten run
At Lugogo, Police improved their unbeaten run to six games with a 3-1 win over Mbarara.
Juma Balinya scored a brace to take his tally to five this season while Pius Kaggwa scored the opener for Abdallah Mubiru’s side.
The results saw Villa move three places to 11th position with seven points from nine games while Nyamityobora stay bottom of the 16-team log. Police were up to seventh while Mbarara remained third after missing out on a chance to go top.
